Early childhood programming at DHES uses DCPS’s adopted Creative Curriculum. Creative Curriculum aligns with the Reggio Emilia Inspired Approach. As a Reggio Emilia Inspired School, the Early Childhood educators at DHES strive to cultivate the creativity and potential inherent in every child. Experiential and project-based learning occur daily to ensure that learning is effective, meaningful, and makes sense to the student.

Grades K-5
DHES, in accordance with DCPS, implements the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in Mathematics and English Language Arts/Literacy. Social Studies and Science are infused throughout all content areas to help students make connections. Students in K-5 are encouraged to solve real-world problems and hone their critical-thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills so they are better prepared for college, career, and life. Research-based programs (i-Ready, IXL Reading and Math, Eureka Math, ST Math, Reflex Learning, Lexia, Epic, MyON etc.), are utilized to make learning personalized and differentiated to meet students’ specific needs.
